Call for Abstracts for the Northeast Residuals & Biosolids Conference

We welcome all abstracts pertaining to the management of biosolids, other organic residuals, resource recovery, and efficiency. We are particularly interested in abstracts addressing the following topics:

• Regulatory changes affecting biosolids and biosolids management in New England and adjoining states & Canadian provinces

• Adapting to the new EPA air emissions MACT standards for SSIs and other regulatory changes

• Regulations & practices for solids management in Connecticut & Rhode Island (and other New England states and adjoining Canadian provinces)

• Public outreach & communications in managing biosolids

• Wastewater plants as resource recovery facilities – energy & biosolids utilization, sustainability

• Energy – net zero energy – biogas – energy recovery

• Carbon management

• Green house gas emissions

• Alternative feedstocks in residuals processing and energy production (e.g. co-digestion)

• Biosolids, organic and inorganic residual products

• Land application

• Enhanced soil amendment

• Fuel

• Biosolids/residuals program operations

• Nutrient management (e.g. phosphorus)

• Academic research

• Emerging technologies

• Microconstituents in residuals and residuals products

• The financial realities of residuals and biosolids management

• Public/Private partnerships

Preferred papers are those that provide clear results from full-scale operations or comprehensive pilot projects and research and/or summarize significant developments and/or generally advance the profession. We anticipate the attendance of leaders in biosolids, residuals, and wastewater facilities from throughout the region. Please submit a short abstract (~250 words), including paper title and author(s), using the online system at the NEWEA website. The submissions deadline is Friday June 24, 2016. Written papers will not be mandatory. However, papers that are submitted may also be considered for the NEWEA January Annual Conference in Boston and publication in the NEWEA Journal. Speakers are expected to register for the conference for at least the day of their presentation.
